To play a gay, my first step was to feel like a girl: Partha Sarathi

Actor Partha Sarathi talks about playing a gay character for the first time.
Talented actor Partha Sarathi, who acted in Bengali flicks like Prem Amar, Challenge, and Dui Prithibi, for the first time will be seen playing the role of a gay in the upcoming film Romantic Noy. The actor feels that one cannot play the role of a gay simply by dressing up differently. He opined, “To play such a role, first of all I have to feel like a girl. If I cannot do so then I won’t look real. My first step was to feel like a girl and second was to dress up like a girl. Lastly I had to connect the both.” When asked about his background research for the particular role, he shared, “I followed certain methods. I analyzed people and also attended a workshop. Actually, I hail from a theatre background, which teaches us to observe and learn from our daily life. I still have the two diaries where I noted down my observations.” “Also, I have some friends who are gay. Long back I had a discussion with them on gays but at that time I had no idea that someday I will get the opportunity of playing such a role. It was a discussion out of curiosity. I guess that discussion also helped me to understand the character better,” he added. Partha feels that the life of a gay is not that easy. He said, “Those who undergo sex change to be women are at least accepted by the society but those who are gays and dress like women still face a lot of problems.” The actor is playing the role of a gay for the first time. So, when asked if he is nervous about audience’s reaction, he quipped, “I treated this as any other character. I am not nervous. I think after watching the film my audience will give me good marks.” Way to go, Partha! Catch the actor in Romantic Noy, released on 18 November.
