MUMBAI: Priyata Dixit has been one of the most sought after casting director and with her recent release “Empuraan” Director by super star Prithviraj starring Mohan Lal and other biggies, she sure has taken the industry by storm
How did your journey into casting begin?
I will give this credit to my Guru, Prahlad Kakkar. It was him who saw the
talent in me to cast. I was assisting him on ad films at Genesis Films,
which was the start of my career. Prahlad Sir use to tell me that I will
make a good Casting Director and kept motivating me towards it. He use
to make me conduct auditions and even decide on the final cast. I must say
I am truly blessed to have had him as my Guru.
2. whats the biggest you have worked on ?
I don’t look at my projects as big or small. I feel we have to put equal
amount of hard work in every project. For me all my projects are
equivalent whether it is a movie like “Badla” or a web series like
“Bahubali- Before The Beginning” and a film like “ The Body” or any
short film.
Infact, variety in characters gives me an opportunity to cast wider range of
actors.
3. whats your next in terms of release?
Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj, starring Mohanlal Sir, Prithviraj,
Abhimanyu Singh. I am extremely grateful to be a part of this film. It gave
me a chance to cast multiple hindi speaking actors, which is also the need
of the film and it’s catering Pan India Audience. It is up for release on 27th
of March.
4. what do you look at before taking on a project ?
The Script is one of the factors. Then comes different interesting
characters to cast. The most important thing that I look for is an healthy
environment to work for everyone. Specially for all my actors as this
effects their performance. If we succeed in providing this to actors, I
believe they will be able to deliver their best.
5. is it challenging as a job because the audiences may feel the fit of certain characters is not right does that scare you?
I have grown up watching films as audience, infact even now when I
watch a film for the first time I do it as audience. This helps me to keep
their perspective in mind. So when I read about a character, the first thing I
think is which actor would I like to see on screen playing this character.
But at times the director has a different vision so we have to follow their
perspective. So to answer your question, no it doesn’t scare me at all,
infact it gives me a kick to get the cast right!
6. what are you working on currently.
I have a couple of things lined up in terms of films, commercials and web
series, won’t be able to provide more details as they are yet to be announced. But some exciting stuff coming out soon !
