PVR Director’s Rare will release a bunch of five award-winning short films produced by Anurag Kashyap and Guneet Monga on 12 July, 2013.
They are Sujata by Shlok Sharma, Shor by Neeraj Ghaywan, Mehfuz by Rohit Pandey, Audacity by Anirban Roy and The Epilogue by Siddharth Gupta.
Shlok Sharma’s short film Sujata featuring Huma Qureshi screened at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, Indian Film Festival Stuttgart and the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) in 2012. Huma Qureshi won an ‘Honourable Mention’ for her performance in Sujata at IFFLA.
Neeraj Ghaywan’s Shor featuring Ratnabali Bhattacharjee and Amardeep Jha chronicled the struggle of a migrant couple from Benaras in Mumbai. The film won the Satyajit Ray Foundation Short Film Award 2012 at the London Indian Film Festival. It was also shown at the Best Short Film at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) 2012 and South Asian International Film Festival in 2011.
Mehfuz by Rohit Pandey featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui won the second prize in Muhr Asia Africa Shorts section at the Dubai International Film Festival in 2011. It went on to screen at Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles and Indian Film Festival Stuttgart in 2012.
US-based Indian filmmaker Anirban Roy’s short film Audacity revolves around a 13-year old girl in Kolkata who challenges the authority of her traditional father on her choice of music. The film screened at the American Film Institute’s Festival (AFI Fest) 2012. It won the Audience Choice Award at the International Film Festival of Los Angeles.
