After Ranbir Kapoor, it was Ram Gopal Varma's turn to evade some tough questions from the media. At the press conference of Satya 2 held yesterday, we posed a seemingly innocuous question to RGV. Why has a brand like Satya failed to find support from a big production house? The question shook Ramu who looked visibly uncomfortable answering it. After a few calculated pauses and some nervous shifting in his place, Ramu answered in cavalier fashion, “It’s none of your concern.”
The response didn't go down well with the assembled media and immediately another reporter prodded Ramu to explain this stance of his. “I am a director and I don't involve myself in any other activities,” said Ramu much to everyone's dissatisfaction.
Satya 2 which is being directed by Ramu tells the story of a man who reinvents the underworld by learning from the mistakes of his predecessors. “The protagonist in the movie starts a new underworld company based on his study of the mistakes of the earlier dons and develops a way to deal with the police as well,” said Ramu and also added that while Satya was about shaping the underworld, Satya 2 is about reinventing it.
The movie will also mark the debut of three new actors - Puneet Singh Ratn, Anaika Soti and Aradhana Gupta. Needless to say, Ramu's leading ladies were the cynosure of all eyes yesterday. When we asked what special qualities he found in his lovely ladies, Ramu quipped, “They are lovely. You said it, yourself.”
The movie also has a journalist character by the name of Gurdeep Rajdesai. Now the name rhymes perfectly well with that of Rajdeep Sardesai and so did the reel character's appearance. When we asked Ramu if the character derives its inspiration from Rajdeep Sardesai, he firmly denied it. “No it is not inspired. I haven't thought about it the way you have,” said Ramu.
All said and done, the trailer of Satya 2 looks impressive and ready to kill. The music sounds soulful too. But it remains to be seen if Satya 2 will attain the cult status of Satya. And for RGV, this could well be the last gamble.
