MUMBAI: Here we bring you fresh news from the world of Bollywood, so relax and enjoy reading the hot happenings of B- town.

‘SOTY 2' release date changed to 10 May, 2019

Karan Johar's production Student Of The Year 2 will now release on 10 May, 2019 instead of 23 November this year.

Karan tweeted on Monday, "There is a new date for 'SOTY 2'! The admissions are now in summer 2019!"

"May 10, 2019! Summer gets hotter," he added.

The film is a sequel to the 2012 romantic comedy drama Student Of The Year, which was directed by Karan himself and was the launchpad for Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra in Bollywood.

Student Of The Year 2 is being directed by Punit Malhotra. It stars Tiger Shroff and will launch Tara Sutaria and Ananya Panday.

The date change move is likely to have been taken to avoid the clutter during the last quarter of 2018, especially with Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar-starrer sci-fi thriller 2.0 slated to hit the screens on 29 November -- a week later than the original release date of Student Of The Year 2, film trade sources told a publication.

However, the makers are yet to comment on the reason behind the date change.

Salman welcomes 'beautiful' Katrina to 'Bharat'

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan on Monday welcomed Katrina Kaif to the cast of Bharat in style, by calling her "sundar" (beautiful) and "susheel" (virtuous).

"Ek sundar aur susheel ladki jiska naam hai Katrina Kaif... Swagat hai aapka 'Bharat' ki zindagi mein (A beautiful and virtuous girl named Katrina... We welcome you the world of 'Bharat')," Salman tweeted on Monday.

Katrina, who has given several hits with Salman at the box office, will play his love interest in Bharat, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar.

The three are reuniting for the period drama after Tiger Zinda Hai. Zafar had also directed Katrina in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, and is looking forward to working with his "three collaboration buddy".

Katrina has stepped into a role which was originally being played by Priyanka Chopra, who according to Zafar, opted out of the project "in the Nick of time". His announcement alluded to US media speculations about Priyanka's engagement to American singer-songwriter Nick Jonas.

Bharat went on floors earlier this month. It has already begun the first schedule, including a grand circus sequence featuring Salman and Disha Patani.

Katrina will join the shoot in the upcoming schedules beginning in September.

Singer Mika Singh robbed of Rs 300,000 cash, jewels

Bollywood playback singer Mika Singh has reported a theft of cash and jewellery worth Rs 300,000 from his house in the Oshiwara area of Andheri west, police said on Tuesday.

Singh's manager lodged the complaint on his behalf alleging that Rs 100,000 in cash and jewellery worth Rs 200,000 was stolen from his flat on Monday afternoon.

No arrests have been made so far, but the police said that an employee of the singer, who was seen leaving the building in the CCTV footage, is the prime suspect in the case.

Oshiwara Police Station head S. Pasalwar said efforts are on to trace the suspect, who hails from New Delhi. Singh has not commented on the issue so far.

Goofy, silly, chatterbox: Bollywood yet to see Yami Gautam's other side

Yami Gautam's upcoming films Batti Gul Meter Chalu and Uri are different in look, concept and subject -- something she is glad about -- but the actress says the industry is yet to tap into her "other side", which is all about being goofy, silly and loving to dance.

Having done films like Vicky Donor, Total Siyappa, Kaabil and Sarkar 3 in Hindi cinema, Yami has been attempting to display versatility in her filmography. With Batti Gul Meter Chalu and Uri, she is hoping to push the envelope further, as well as do an "out-and-out commercial potboiler".

"I am quite grateful and happy that such roles are coming up which resonate (with) today's girls, and are about being independent. I am happy with the fact that they (the two films) are different -- in terms of looks, concepts, subjects," Yami told an online media portal in an interview.

She said she also enjoys films in which she could be dancing or there could be comedy.

"Because I enjoy watching it, I would love to perform or be a part of such films as that's also one of the variations of films we have," Yami said.

This variety, according to her, is the best thing about Bollywood.

"Look at the range we are coming up with. I think it's amazing. I would love to do an out-and-out 'masala' film. I'd love to dance, because I love dancing... For example, I love watching Madhuri Dixit's 'Ek do teen...', so why wouldn't I like to dance? But at the same time, I am glad I have such roles in Uri and Batti Gul," said Yami.

"My contemporaries are doing great work, and it's an exciting time. It's nice if you can make use of it and put yourself to some really versatile cinema," she added.

Isn't the industry yet to capture this side of her performance?

"Totally, but it will come out definitely. People are yet to see the other side of me where I am all goofy, I love dancing, I am just me -- who is silly also, a chatterbox also, a dancer also, a brat also... That side will come with the right project. It doesn't have to be like, 'Oh now, I have to do it'. If it's meant to be, the subject chooses you."

Overall, she says she is always waiting for "good work".

"I love period films, costume dramas and I'd love to play a warrior princess. I am already doing something strong in Uri and Batti Gul. And when I say strong, I mean the impact of these roles in the film."

Yami plays a lawyer in Batti Gul Meter Chalu and an intelligence officer in Uri.

While she has prepared a lot for her roles in both films, Yami's larger aim is to become an effortless performer -- almost like Irrfan Khan, who can perform comedy, drama, serious or intense roles, with equal ease.

"We don't know what the actor is doing, but he does something real and there's nothing made up about it. So, that's the attempt, to learn that process," said Yami, who is not a trained actor.

Nandita Das in jury for Unesco award

Acclaimed actress-filmmaker Nandita Das was among the jury members of the 2018 edition of the Unesco-Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-Violence.

Nandita, who is in the midst of a grueling schedule, working towards the India release of her much-awaited film Manto and its participation in international film festivals, found it rejuvenating to get this invite to participate in a meaningful initiative.

"Having been on many film juries, right from 2005 when I was on the main jury at the Cannes Film Festival, I have always enjoyed the deliberation process. One gets to know different perspectives that reflect different experiences and contexts," Nandita said in a statement.

In recognition of a lifelong devotion to communal harmony and peace, the Prize bears the name of its benefactor Madanjeet Singh, who was a Unesco Goodwill Ambassador, Indian artist, writer and diplomat.

It is awarded every two years, on the occasion of the International Day for Tolerance on 16 November. The Prize is marked by a ceremony and the winner is presented with a sum of $100,000.

For Nandita, this was the second time that she was on a jury for a social impact initiative.

She finds such engagements "very inspiring".

"One gets to meet and read about people who are doing incredible work around the world. It's a good distraction between our own indulgences.

"Having been caught up with Manto, it was actually refreshing and brought back a certain sense of hope. Opportunities like this allow one to feel connected to a larger community of people, all of whom are seeking ways to make the world around them more liveable," she added.

Unesco Director-General Audrey Azoulay had appointed the jury, which also included Nadia Bernoussi, a celebrated academic and legal expert from Morocco, and Abdoulaye Konate, a prominent artist and cultural voice in Mali.

Celebrating its 22th anniversary and its eleventh edition this year, the prize rewards significant activities in the scientific, artistic, cultural or communications fields aimed at the promotion of a spirit of tolerance and non-violence, according to the official Unesco website.

Vasu Bhagnani moves SC to stall release of 'Fanney Khan'

Hindi film producer Vashu Bhagnani on Monday moved the Supreme Court against the release of Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Fanney Khan.

The case was mentioned by Bhagnani's lawyer before a bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice A.M. Khawhilkar and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, which posted it for hearing on 1 August.

Bhagnani alleged that the film's distribution rights for India were given to his company Pooja Entertainment & Films Ltd.

The film, also starring Rajkummar Rao, slated to release in 3 August.

Pooja Films said that it owns the exclusive rights to distribute, exhibit and exploit the commercial and non-commercial theatrical rights for the film Fanney Khan throughout India and entered into an MoU with co-producer Kriarj Entertainment in December 2017. Pooja Films also claimed that sole distribution rights for the film were sold to it and it has deposited an amount of Rs 8.50 crore, out of an agreed Rs 10 crore payment, and as per the agreement, the remaining money need only be paid a week before the film's release.

However, in connivance with others, the rights were parted with its entire co-production and distribution rights, it further said.

Two petitions already were pending before the Delhi and Bombay High Courts.

The petitioner sought direction for transfer of the cases pending in the Bombay High Court to the Delhi High Court or to the Supreme Court and stay the release of the film.
