MUMBAI: 2022 was not a good year for Bollywood. Many biggies failed to make a mark at the box office, and some were total disasters. Even Cirkus, which was expected to do well, turned out to be one of the disasters of 2022. 

The year ended with the release of Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia Deshmukh’s Marathi film Ved. The buzz about the movie in Maharashtra was quite good, and it was expected that the movie might do well at the box office. 

Ved took a good start at the box office, but the positive word of mouth worked in the favor of the film, and the movie kept on doing amazing business on weekdays as well. In just one week, the Marathi movie has collected Rs. 20.67 crore which is quite good. According to Wikipedia, the budget of the movie is Rs. 15 crores.

Well, in just one week, Ved has surpassed the lifetime collection of many Bollywood biggies that were released in 2022…

Badhaai Do

Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Badhaai Do was one of the first big Bollywood films to release in theatres in 2022. While the movie received positive reviews, it didn’t get a great response at the box office, and only collected Rs. 20.62 crores.

Attack

John Abraham’s action-thriller Attack had also failed to make a mark at the box office. It had collected Rs. 16.13 crore.

Jersey

Shahid Kapoor starrer Jersey, which was a remake of a Telugu film of the same name, collected Rs. 19.68 crores and was a disaster at the box office.

Jayeshbhai Jordaar

Ranveer Singh starrer Jayeshbhai Jordaar was also a flop at the box office. It had only collected Rs. 15.59 crore at the box office.

Phone Bhoot

Katrina Kaif is one of the biggest female stars in Bollywood. But, even she couldn’t get audiences to theatres with her movie Phone Bhoot. The film, which was a flop, collected Rs. 14.01 crore.

An Action Hero

Post the pandemic, Ayushmann Khurrana has been going through a rough phase at the box office. His last release An Action Hero was a disaster as it collected Rs. 10.89 crore.

In 2022, most of the remakes also failed to make a mark at the box office. But, Drishyam 2 and Ved (remake of Telugu film Majili) have proved that if remakes are well-made, audiences will come and watch them in theatres.
