Ritesh Batra's The Lunchbox to premiere at Cannes

Ritesh Batra’s The Lunchbox that stars Irrfan Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Nimrat Kaur amongst others will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. This will be in addition to the other films that will be also be premiered at the festival including Monsoon Shootout and Bombay Talkies. The film has been produced by Guneet Monga and Anurag Kashyap of Sikhya Entertainment and Arun Rangachari of DAR Motion Pictures. Being his debut feature, director Ritesh Batra whose earlier short films have bagged him numerous accolades will be competing for the Camera d’or. Said Ritesh, “I am thrilled that our film is in Cannes, we were just trying to tell a story as honestly as possible. I am so glad it’s universal and can speak to a global audience.” The Lunchbox is set amidst the milieu of a mistaken delivery in Mumbai's famously efficient lunchbox delivery system that connects a young housewife to a stranger in the dusk of his life. “I am over the moon with the announcement. We have Monsoon Shootout and now Lunchbox too at the festival. It is so hearting to see our hard work paying off. Both Amit Kumar and Ritesh Batra are fabulous directors and I am so happy that their films have made it” averred Monga. This film marks the first of its kind co-production and is also the first Indo-French co-production since the signing of the co-production treaty. The cast and crew along with Batra and producers Arun Rangachari, Guneet Monga and Anurag Kashyap are expected to be in attendance to present the film at the festival.
