MUMBAI : Kajol has been in the industry for 30 years. The actress has been a part of many successful films, and has also proved her mettle as an actor. Now, she is gearing up for the release of Salaam Venky which is slated to hit the big screens on 9th December 2022.
Salaam Venky is based on the life of Kolavennu Venkatesh, who suffered from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and passed away in 2004. Kajol plays the role of Sujata, Venkatesh’s mother.
Recently, during a media interaction, Kajol opened up about meeting Sujata, about whether she gets box office jitters, and more.
Was it difficult to meet and have a conversation with Sujata (Venkatesh’s mother)?
“It was not a difficult conversation, but it was a very intimidating conversation. When you meet her there’s just this simplicity about her, she is a simple woman with an amazing clarity that whatever I can do, I will do it. The relationship that she shared with her son was amazing, maybe because they only had each other, and she had to be brave because she wanted him to be brave. She only wanted one thing; that whatever her son asked for she tried to give.

Do you have any fears in life and how do you deal with it?
“Of course, I think we struggle with fears every day. When we get up every day there’s something we are scared of. But, one thing in our lives is that you have to work despite the fear, and that’s what I did with Salaam Venky. I was scared that I would come on set and start crying and say that I can’t shoot the film; that was a valid fear. So, despite all these things you need to keep on doing things that make you feel satisfied.”
After being in the industry for 30 years, do you still feel box office jitters?
“Honestly, I don’t and that may make me sound really terrible, but yes, I hope and pray for the best. I really hope and pray that everybody goes and watches the film and that it gets fantastic numbers. Honestly, I have really given more than 300 percent to this film. I can face myself tomorrow in the mirror and say that ‘have you worked your hardest’. I have given my 100 percent while working on the film, and that’s the only thing you can control.”
