MUMBAI: Notable Indian celebrities like Shabana Azmi and Ritesh Sidhwani are among the 487 new members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who have been invited to join. Nineteen of the 71 Oscar candidates in this new class of 2024 are winners. In the event that every invited member accepts, the Academy will have 10,910 members overall, with almost 9,000 of them having voting rights.

The Academy revealed on Instagram that the Class of 2024 invitations had been sent out. Prominent figures among the 487 new members were producer Ritesh Sidhwani and seasoned actress Shabana Azmi.
The Academy reports that 44 percent of the Class of 2024 is made up of women, 41 percent of whom are members of underrepresented racial or ethnic groups, and 56 nations and territories outside of the US are represented. Upon accepting membership, those who have been invited to several branches will have to choose one.
Sharing the announcement on Social media, The Academy wrote, “We’re proud to announce our newly invited members to the Academy!”

Regarding her career, Shabana Azmi most recently acted in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, directed by Karan Johar, in which she costarred with Jaya Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, and Ranveer Singh. Both reviewers and fans responded favorably to the movie, and it was a financial triumph at the box office.
Subsequently, Azmi will feature in Bun Tikki, the directorial debut of Manish Malhotra, where she will share the major role with Zeenat Aman and Abhay Deol. After filming was finished, the staff and cast celebrated with a wrap party. The movie will be out later this year.
In the meantime, renowned producer and director Ritesh Sidhwani is well-known for his work on numerous films, including Madgaon Express, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Fukrey, Don 3, Dil Dhadakne Do, Raees, Talaash, Lakshya, Gully Boy, and Dil Chahta Hai.
