MUMBAI: Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal got married earlier this year, choosing an intimate ceremony and low-key reception as their wedding style. In contrast to the typical multi-day Indian wedding spectacle, the couple opted for a low-key and intimate ceremony.

Sonakshi recently explained why she refused to go to the usual ornate pre-wedding events, citing her brother Kussh's wedding as the reason behind her choice. Sonakshi stated in an open interview with the popular news portal that she would rather have a more intimate affair.

The actress said, in response to a question about whether she felt pressured to have a "big fat Indian wedding,“There was pressure, but we were very clear on the kind of wedding that we wanted. If you go back a few years to my brother’s wedding, it was huge. There were like 5,000 or 8,000 people at each function. The first thing I told my mother after that was, ‘Meri shaadi waise nahi hogi’ (My wedding won’t be like this).”

In 2015, Kussh Sinha wed Taruna Agarwal, and their wedding was lavishly commemorated. Sonakshi went on to say that Zaheer and she had a very specific idea of how they wanted their wedding day to go.

“We were very particular and clear that this is how we want to do it. This day comes once in our lives, and it’s very, very special, so we want to do it the way we want to do it, and our friends and family obliged,” she said. Sonakshi admitted that some friends weren't totally satisfied with their decision.

“Like you saw Huma (Qureshi) said, ‘We wanted more functions.’ My best friend and stylist, Mohit, said, ‘I want to give you five outfit changes,’ so he’s very upset with me that I only did one change,” she laughed.

The pair chose to get married legally at home, and that same evening, a number of celebrities attended the wedding reception. “There was no pressure, but I think they just expected us to have many functions,” Zaheer shared his thoughts.

The marriage of Sonakshi and Zaheer signified the culmination of their seven-year relationship. Her other brother, Luv, was noticeably missing from the celebrations, however her brother Kussh was present at the reception.
