Suchitra Sen's health condition deteriorates; shifted to critical care

The condition of legendary actress Suchitra Sen seems to have worsened. She has now been shifted to the critical care after her health condition deteriorated. Doctors of the private nursing home in Kolkata where she was admitted last Saturday informed that her condition is serious and there is fluid accumulation in her lungs. She is currently on antibiotic and oxygen. Her diabetic parameter too is said to be fluctuating. Two days ago the actress was taken to the nursing home in Kolkata when she complained of breathlessness and mild cough. Once at the hospital, the 83-year old actress was diagnosed with a respiratory tract infection. “She was immediately administered antibiotics and put on oxygen. It was good that she could be given medicine promptly, else her advanced age could have triggered other complications,” a source said. Hospital doctors are treading with caution as this is the fifth time the Saat Paake Bandha actress has been hospitalized since 2007. Barring February, 2008, when she suffered an urinary tract infection and September 2012, when she underwent surgery for a fractured wrist bone, she had come to the hospital with near-similar complaints twice before. Ever since she quit acting decades ago, Sen, who has often been compared to Hollywood star Greta Garbo for her reclusive nature, has been living a secluded life and is very protective about her privacy. At the hospital too, strict instructions have been given to not make her illness public or allow anyone get close to her. Her daughter Moon Moon Sen and granddaughters Riya and Raima are keeping a constant tab on her in the hospital. Debuting in films with the Bengali movie Shesh Kothai in 1952, Sen went on to receive a National Award for her performance in the 1955 Hindi film Devdas. She even did three other Hindi films namely Bambai ka Babu with Dev Anand, a double role in Mamta opposite Ashok Kumar and Dharmendra and Aandhi opposite Sanjeev Kumar.
