MUMBAI: On Thursday, Sunny Deol got into a lot of trouble after a movie producer accused him of cheating Rs 2.55 crore. The Gadar 2 actor made a cute remark on his brother Bobby Deol's anniversary post, but he hasn't responded to the shocking accusations yet.
Late on Thursday night, Bobby Deol sent a touching anniversary message for his wife, Tania Deol, on Instagram. Sunny also immediately liked the post and left a kind remark beneath the couple's photo. Sunny commented on his younger brother's post with a string of red heart emoticons, seemingly unaffected by the uproar.
Meanwhile, Sorav Gupta, a real estate developer turned producer who owns Sundawn Entertainment Pvt Ltd, has levelled shocking allegations of cheating, extortion and forgery against Sunny Deol.
Sorav claimed that he and his team met Sunny in May 2016 with the first draft of their film. The actor apparently agreed to do the movie for Rs 4 crore. “We paid him Rs 1 crore in advance. Then in October, he asked for another crore and we made that payment as well,” the producer told the popular news portal, adding that Sunny still didn’t start the shoot and went on to film for “Poster Boyz” instead.
The back and forth kept happening until 2022 when Sunny allegedly asked Sorav to change the film’s director and rework the script. “In 2023, he only suggested a subject to us. The name of the film was Ram Janmabhoomi. We were told that the script is ready, there is a director onboard and that we just need to execute it. The total budget of the movie was estimated to be around Rs 40 crore, which would be divided 50-50 between us and another partner,” Sorav claimed.
The producer further alleged, “In the next meeting, Sunny Deol assured us that the film will be made. But then, he said that his fee has now gone up. So we reached an agreement that Sunny Deol will get Rs 2 crore extra from the profit. Then he requested us to give him Rs 50 lakh more, saying that his son’s wedding was coming up. He told us that he would fetch big returns for the project from the satellite and digital sales. So we paid him Rs 50 lakh.”
When Sorav obtained a hard copy of the contract, he was taken aback to find that Sunny had hiked his fee to Rs 8 crore and Rs 2 crore from the profits. “In all these years, we have spent up to Rs 25 crore directly or indirectly on the project, including the Rs 2.55 crore paid to Sunny Deol,” the producer claimed.
