MUMBAI : When Vivek Oberoi came out and conducted that news conference, claiming that Salman Khan had threatened him because of his relationship with Aishwarya Rai, it was considered the lowest moment of his career. Years later, legendary actor Suresh Oberoi, the father of Vivek Oberoi, talked about his son's difficult time and praised him for standing strong.
In an interview with the popular news portal, Vivek's father Suresh Oberoi praised his son and mentioned, “It is his strength that he got through this. If it was someone else, they would have become an alcoholic or perhaps a drug addict. People were really against him. Media, and the people in the film industry, even the actors... sometimes when people get successful very quickly, others can't take it."
The industry shunned him following his controversial fight with Salman Khan. In an interview, Vivek mentioned that his most frustrating period of joblessness was 14 months.
In a previous interview, Vivek expressed gratitude," I’m glad that I emerged from that. I kind of came up through the trial by fire and survived it. But not everybody’s going be that lucky."
He went on to say how frustrating it was to be jobless, "In hindsight, I went through a lot of stuff that was unnecessary. A lot of lobbies, a lot of repressive stories – kind of what Priyanka has been alluding to also. That’s been a hallmark of our industry, unfortunately. It’s been one of the dark sides of our industry. And I’ve been on the receiving end of it. I know how frustrating it is, it can make one feel extremely, exhausted and tired. You feel like, I’ve just delivered an award winning, commercially successful performance in Shoot out Lokhandwala and after that, I’m sitting at home for 14 months, not getting any work."
