MUMBAI: The tragic demise of hindi movie actor Sushant Singh Rajput continues to resonate across the nation, leaving fans and well-wishers heartbroken and searching for closure.
Five years have passed since the talented actor was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on 14th June 2020, yet questions surrounding his untimely death persist.
Official post-mortem reports had concluded that Sushant died due to asphyxia by hanging, ruling it a case of suicide. However, the circumstances around his death sparked widespread debate and demands for justice, resulting in the investigation being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

In a significant development, the CBI has now cleared actress Rhea Chakraborty of any wrongdoing in connection with the case.
The agency stated that Sushant had considered Rhea “part of the family” and found no evidence suggesting she was involved in illegally confining, threatening, or abetting him to commit suicide. The investigation also found no proof of embezzlement or misappropriation of the actor’s funds or belongings by Rhea.
According to the closure report, Sushant had explicitly told his flatmate, Sidharth Pithani, that Rhea was “part of the family.” Furthermore, when Rhea and her brother left Sushant’s residence on 8th June, they took only personal items gifted to her by the actor, including an Apple laptop and wristwatch. The CBI confirmed that no evidence emerged indicating the removal of any property without Sushant’s knowledge.
Despite the closure, Sushant Singh Rajput’s family and their legal team have vowed to challenge the report in court, calling it an “eyewash” and “incomplete.”
Varun Singh, the family’s lawyer, stated, “If the CBI truly wanted to uncover the truth, they would have submitted all supporting documents — including chats, technical records, witness statements, and medical reports — alongside the closure report. We will file a protest petition, as this report is based on a shoddy investigation.”
The federal agency had filed two closure reports in March this year — one addressing a complaint by Sushant’s father, KK Singh, alleging that Rhea and her family drove his son to suicide and misused his funds, and another concerning a case filed by Rhea against Sushant’s sisters. The investigation into Sushant’s death remains one of the most polarising and widely debated cases in recent Indian media history.
With the CBI’s latest findings and the family’s decision to challenge the report, the saga surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput’s death continues, keeping the nation watching closely for the next chapter in this high-profile case.
