YRF's Detective Byomkesh Bakshi starring Sushant Singh in the lead role has already been creating news for a lot many reasons. While first it was Sushant's quirky look that excited viewers, of late it's the hot and lengthy lip-lock between Sushant and Swastika Mukherjee (who was recently accused of shoplifting in Singapore) that been creating national headlines.
While it was earlier believed that Swastika character of Anguri Devi has been modeled yesteryear actress Devika Rani's life, it now emerges that Anguri Devi is actually inspired from the life of famous double agent Mata Hari and not Devika Rani.
Mata Hari was a Frisian exotic dancer and courtesan who was convicted of being a spy and executed by a firing squad in France under charges of espionage for Germany during World War I.
We have learnt that the nuances of Swastika's character has been crafted around Mata Hari to give an edge to her role without shelving the glamour element.
Shares Dibakar, "Swastika's character is not based on Devika Rani at all. It's a combination of Mata Hari and a famous character created by Saradindu Banerjee himself. A deadly double agent and a famous and notorious fashion icon who defined the taste and scandals of her generation. Anguri loves to provoke. And get your secret when you're busy looking at her, her clothes, or her without the clothes."
Well, looks like this detective film will offer Indian audience a lot more than just cheap suspense thrills.
