MUMBAI: Currently basking in the outstanding reviews for his debut directorial ‘Madgaon Express’, actor-turned-filmmaker and now singer-songwriter Kunal Kemmu is known for his brilliant comic timing. Whether as a filmmaker in his newly released comedy-drama or portraying varied characters as an actor, he consistently continues to shine. Speaking of which, filmmaker Rajesh A. Krishnan’s ‘Lootcase’ is considered one of Kunal Kemmu’s finest works. In 2021, he was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival award for Best Actor in Comedy for his performance in the film. Acknowledging Rajesh A. Krishnan and Kunal Kemmu’s close bond over the years, the former penned a heartfelt note applauding the latter’s brilliant directorial debut and his multifaceted talent.

How he is at the intersection of so many talents is a mystery on par with dark matter to me. From the most uninterested spot boy, to the sleep deprived light man to the hard as nails AD everyone in the set simply gawks in suspended animation when Kunal performs. Right then if you stabbed the air, blood would ooze, not sauce. How? I will never know. All I know is Lootcase wouldn’t have been the same without him. I didn’t believe he wrote the dialogues for Go Goa Gone - until I met him! He pens lyrics, he sings and plays the guitar with the same ease he executes a back flip and breaks into a moonwalk - without even 30 seconds of warm up! Dear Kunal, must you also direct and make us feel like shit? I am so jealous man! A couple of years ago, you had shared your script of Madhgaon Express. And then I saw your sorcery in the screening!
