From the beginning, I had an inclination towards performing arts: Anuj Arora

MUMBAI: Actor Anuj Arora, who is making his Bollywood debut with Koi Jaye Toh Le Aaye, says he was always attracted to performing arts. The actor who has been part of shows like Bandini, Thodi Khushi Thode Gham, Behenein and web series Anarchy says that it all began when he was a schoolboy, and he loved facing the audience and entertaining them.

“I've always believed that at the core of everything is love. From the beginning, I had an inclination towards performing arts. I enjoyed singing in school prayers and performing for people. When I received appreciation, it felt amazing. I loved facing the audience and seeing people's admiration for my craft, which fueled my passion,” he said.

“As I grew up, this passion only grew stronger. Until 8th grade, my teachers would often have me represent 3–4 classes in school functions because they loved my performances. Their appreciation and encouragement made me pursue a career in the performing arts, and I fell in love with the stage. I'm grateful to all my teachers and gurus for their support,” he added.

He also mentioned that, when it comes to his acting style and craft, it's an ever-evolving process. He added, “As Irfan Khan said, 'The whole existence is your tool.' Initially, we get influenced and want to become like others, but as we explore and face problems, we learn. Failure is the biggest teacher. When my father passed away, I realized and learned so much about what he went through and how he provided for us, and my approach towards him changed. Initially, we all copy someone, but slowly we learn to add our own experiences and evolve.”

He further said, “I've been fortunate to be part of Atul Mongia's workshops and assist him in many. It's an inner journey—connecting with yourself. I hope it helps me learn and improve my craft. Initially, I used to just learn the script and recite it, but now I take 2-3 days to live with the character and approach it differently.”
