Says Balaji Motion Pictures CEO Tanuj Garg, “It’s a happy feeling when your baby goes places. The French are great creators and connoisseurs of films with a distinctive appeal in the world cinema market. We’re glad that our cult film will be resonating with the audience in France. Our next plan is to give it a wide release in Korea and other markets where some recent Bollywood titles have been performing incredibly.” The Dirty Picture is a biographical film inspired by the life of Silk Smitha, a noted South Indian actress known for her erotic roles. The film won three National Film Awards including those of best actress, three Filmfare Awards and six Screen Awards including best picture and best director. Sharing his joy, director Milan Luthria observes, “C'est fantastique! We are now invading France. I am confident the French will react with great fanfare to our film and pick up all subtle nuances of character and performance. We will call the team over for some hors d'ouvres (open hours) and exquisite French wine to celebrate. As for me, I'd have loved to be in France on July 4 but I am caught up with the pre-production of Once Upon A Time In Mumbai.....Again.” It is ironic to note that The Dirty Picture was banned from being telecast in India by the government of India.
