Unbroken

MUMBAI: In a move that departs from the norm and gives new life to documentaries in India, 'Unbroken: The Unmukt Chand Story,' a documentary about the life of Unmukt Chand, will be released in theaters on September 12 by PVR. In another unusual step, the record label Zee Music is releasing the music from the documentary.

The story of former captain Unmukt Chand, who led India to victory in the Under-19 World Cup, is directed by  Raghav Khanna. Riverland Entertainment and Tudip Entertainment produce it. The producers are Deepti Agarwal, Jaishree Khanna, Tushar Upshankar, and Raghav Khanna, with Priyanka Chaudhary serving as co-producer.

Director Raghav Khanna said, "Unmukt's story is not just limited to cricket. It is a story of rising from broken dreams, showing courage, and finding a second chance in life. Unmukt's journey connects with every person who does not lose hope despite difficulties.” On the documentary's theatrical release, Raghav adds, "Today, when most documentaries are released on OTT platforms, it is essential to release them in theaters. Streaming has brought documentaries into the mainstream, but releasing them in theaters will add a new dimension to this art form. I feel a documentary can also give as much of a cinematic experience as a fiction film."

On Zee Music releasing the music, Raghav said, "Some emotions could only be expressed through songs and music. Therefore, music plays a crucial role in the documentary. And we see the documentary as a more integrated entertainment unit."

Raghav Khanna has previously made a documentary on S.S. Rajamouli. He said, "Rajamouli sir is in the global spotlight, while Unmukt's journey is completely different. A player who reached the pinnacle but is on the sidelines Today. This is what makes his story inspirational." he further adds, "Documentary making has grown rapidly in India in the last decade. Now, filmmakers must bring stories that are both entertaining and impactful. The trust of the audience and distributors will make this genre commercially viable for a long time to come."

Khanna believes that making a documentary is always unpredictable. Real people, real locations, and a slowly unfolding story make it a challenging experience. But this process makes it both cinematic and emotional.  Unbroken: The Unmukt Chand Story is not just a sports documentary, but an adventurous journey of struggle, faith, and reliving dreams.
