MUMBAI :One of the best films of the last year is without a doubt, RRR. The Telugu epic action-drama film has been turning heads these days as it has been bagging international accolades and making India proud. It recently won an award at the Golden Globes for Best Original Song for ‘Naatu Naatu’, and much recently, it won two awards at the 28th Critics Choice Award- Best Song for ‘Naatu Naatu’ and Best Foreign Language Film.

SS Rajamouli and team are now eyeing the Oscars and are hoping to bag the Best Picture nomination. Well did you know this interesting fact about the movie? Apparently, SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus has a connection with Bengal, and that connection is with one of the country’s founding fathers, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

During a recent interview, director Rajamouli had shared this fact while speaking about the film’s historical significance. He said that 'RRR' is the story of two legendary freedom fighters: Alluri Seetharama Raju (played by Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (played by Jr NTR) from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Alluri Seetharama Raju was termed a legend after fighting against the British deep in the jungles of Andhra Pradesh. He was later killed by the British, but his story of bravery and his battle has been etched into the story of India's freedom movement. But the only ones who knew this story belonged to the state, since hardly anyone mentioned it, and the story didn't reach across India. The director further added that when Netaji visited Visakhapatnam a few years later, he was the one who told the world about Alluri Seetharama Raju's brave battle against the British police.

Rajamouli’s take is that RRR has a nice connection with Bengal through Netaji. So therefore, the worldwide appreciation that RRR has been receiving is definitely a proud moment for Bengal as well.
