MUMBAI: Twinkle Khanna knows how to make a film review as entertaining as the film itself. Taking to her social media, she shared her take on Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch’s upcoming dark comedy, The Roses, and in classic Twinkle style, it was equal parts witty, cheeky, and refreshingly honest.
In her reel, Twinkle quips that for Ivy Rose, the best thing about her husband Theo is simply “that he has arms,” while for Theo, living with Ivy is “marginally better than living with a wolf.” She praises Colman and Cumberbatch for delivering “a lesson in marital chaos that is witty and a bit unhinged,” adding that their explosive on-screen battles — pepper spray, guns, and all — offer a refreshing spin on gender roles without ever feeling gimmicky. At one point, she even cheekily refers to Benedict Cumberbatch as a “hot batata vada." Wrapping up her review, she declared that The Roses is a film “that will leave you in splits,” admitting she “can’t remember the last time I loved a movie this much.”
Directed by Jay Roach and written by Tony McNamara, The Roses also stars Kate McKinnon and Andy Samberg.
