MUMBAI: With the variety of roles she has played since her power-packed debut with Dangal, Sanya Malhotra has proved that she is here to stay. Sanya is making a smooth transition from a talented, pretty face to a seasoned actress.
"It’s been three years, but I still clearly remember the first scene that I shot for my debut film (the Nitesh Tiwari-directed 2016 sports-drama Dangal). There was still some time before I was required to report onset, but one day when I was with my family, I got a text message from the assistant director, telling me to come in the following day. It made me really nervous." says Sanya Malhotra.
She further adds, "Despite the fact that I only had to gesture ‘no’, I felt that I was not properly prepped up for my first shot. We did around six takes before Nitesh sir was satisfied. Of course, some of the retakes were because of technical reasons. But it was a very important scene for me as it was my first and I wanted to give it my best. I kept wondering what Nitesh sir was thinking and kept asking him anxiously if I was doing it right. And he kept reassuring me that I was doing well."
"Another reason for me being so nervous was because I had never been on a film set before Dangal. As a result, I had no idea there are so many people on the set. We had trained for six months, including three hours of daily wrestling in the morning and two hours of weight training in the evening. This continued even while we were shooting for the film. With a few more films in my kitty now, I am a lot more relaxed on a set and I am the happiest when at work." she concludes.
I have a habit of carrying a Polaroid camera with me and it is a tradition to click a picture of mine on the first day of every film’s shoot as a memento. Now, the first days are far better because I am not as anxious.
After proving her mettle as 'Geeta Phogat in Dangal, Sanya who believes in getting into the skin of the character acing in the role with utmost perfection. her unique avatar in Shakuntala Devi is sure to win her audience's hearts.
Work-wise, Sanya is all elated to play Anupama Banerjee in her upcoming project 'Shakuntala Devi', where she will be seen sharing screen space with Vidya Balan. Along with this, she will also be seen in Anurag Basu's untitled next opposite Aditya Roy Kapur. Both films are slated to release early next year.
