During a recent interaction with Oprah Winfrey, the diva was asked if she had a spiritual foundation growing up. She alluded to the "swirling number of religions" present in India, before going on to claim that her dad used to sing in a mosque, which made her aware of Islam. Her response however, did not sit too well with netizens, leading to a social media outrage, where people started questioning her as to which mosque allowed her father to sing and her use of the word 'aware' in that context.
When she wore a t-shirt with the words 'Refugee', 'Immigrant', and 'Outsider'
This happened back in 2016 when the actress was featured on a magazine cover wearing a white t-shirt with the words, 'Refugee', 'Immigrant' and 'Outsider' crossed out in red -- leaving only the word 'Traveller'. The message on her shirt sparked a slew of criticism on social media with netizens accusing The White Tiger actress of belittling the plight of refugees forced to leave their homes.
When she spoke about racism
Following the death of George Floyd in America, the Quantico star had spoken up against racial injustices in the US. However, her statement was not well received on social media as many users labelled her a 'hypocrite' for speaking on issues in the US while remaining tight-lipped on India's ill-treatment of its own minorities.
When she revealed she left a film after the director wanted her to 'strip to underwear'
While not exactly causing social media outrage, Priyanka’s statement in her memoir Unfinished did raise a few eyebrows on the internet when she revealed an unforgettable ordeal with a Bollywood filmmaker who had asked her to "strip down to underwear" for a dance sequence.
