Earlier a couple of black and white films like Mughal e Azam and Hum Dono among others were put through the process of colorization and re-released on the silver screen.
But, the films were not able to garner the amount of box-office returns that was expected of them taking into fact that they were money spinners when they were initially released.
So, for some time, the process of colourisation of old black and white films were put on hold.
But, like true gemologists, Ultra Distributors, a home video distribution company knew that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to colour old black and white films and put them out on home video.
Accordingly, Ultra digitally restored and colourised black and white prints of old timeless black and white classics as the 1956 made Raj Kapoor musical Chori Chori or the 1962s made Shammi Kapoor, Mala Sinha-starrer Dil Tera Deewana and the Kishore Kumar and Madhubala film Half Ticket to suit the taste of the younger generation.
Said Sushil Kumar Agrawal, chief managing director, Ultra Group in a statement, “Ultra Studio has already restored more than 150 films for archival purposes and is also working on colourisation of some more films."
While Chori Chori was a romantic comedy that featured Raj Kapoor and Nargis, Half Ticket saw Kishore Kumar's limitless craziness teamed with Madhubala's irresistible charm and Dil Tera Deewana was a comedy starring Shammi Kapoor, Mala Sinha, Mehmood, Pran and Om Prakash.
