Akira – Action Packed

Read to know what do we feel about Akira...
Akira

Cast: Sonakshi Sinha, Anurag Kashyap, Konkona Sen Sharma, Amit Sadh, and Atul Kulkarni

Rating: 3/5

There have been very few films which rely solely on one woman's shoulder and this week’s release Akira joins the same list. The film made by the ’Ghajini fame’ director A.R.Murugadoss is a remake of  Mouna Guru, an action film originally made in Tamil. Akira stars Sonakshi Sinha in the lead role and Anurag Kashyap, Konkona Sen Sharma, Amit Sadh, and Atul Kulkarni as other characters.

"Life always tests with your special virtue that exists in you” is the quote the movie begins with. The young Akira (Sonakshi Sinha) faces brutal issues with eve-teasers in her hometown Jodhpur. Upset by the scenes and with an aim to make her princess strong, her father (Atul Kulkarni) chooses karate over kathak and decides to make her strong with self defence and honesty. Years pass by and after her father’s death she along with her mother takes a step and moves to the ‘mahanagar’ Mumbai.

Here, the ganja-smoking ACP Rane (Anurag Kashyap) and his officers find a huge bag filled with cash. The corrupted mind and thoughts take over and in the greed to become rich, they end up killing a person in a span, as a part of their quick plan. What follows next are the incessant efforts to keep all this a secret. Honest policewoman and Rane’s colleague, Rabiya (Konkona Sen Sharma) handles the case and strives to know everything about the mystery. Akira, now a student of Holy cross university in Mumbai, gets kidnapped mistakenly and falls in Rane’s trap. What she goes through, how she gets rid from the ambush with her honesty and fighting skill makes the rest of the film.

The movie has a lot of ups and downs, but doesn’t fail to entertain. There are moments in the first few scenes where acid attack and brutality is shown in a way bound to make you emotional. The storyline is decent, but could have been better with a sharper script. Thankfully there is no unnecessary romance in the movie and this along with the stunt keeps the audience gripping throughout. The songs and the background score aren’t impeccable either. Some dialogues are well written and throw light on the corrupt system of our nation.

There is no moment in the movie where you’ll feel that the stunts are under rehearsed or not well performed. Sonakshi’s efforts to amuse us with her skills are commendable. Anurag Kashyap as Rane is the highlight of the film. This officer is ruthless at his best, as much that you’ll love his act by the end of the film. Konkona Sen Sharma is not seen throughout, but is convincing in the parts where she has enacted with at most dignity. All the other characters have only added to the EQ of the film.

Overall, the movie is quite entertaining. Sonakshi’s stunts, Anurag’s bad boy character and the mystery will help you sail through the film. Akira marks itself as a ‘one-time’ watch.
