Dangal trailer has blockbuster written all over it

Trailer review of Aamir Khan starrer Dangal
Dangal

There, we said it. Aamir Khan’s one-movie-a-year play has paid off, and how! His December release Dangal is going to be worth the wait and every penny.

The trailer has blockbuster written on it and we can’t wait for the movie…based on an inspiring true story, it begins with Aamir Khan aka Mahavir Singh Phogat who wants his son to fulfill his dream of winning a gold for the country.

But it’s not his son, but his fiery and bindaas daughters- Geeta and Babita- who take their father’s dream and beat the hell out of it (excuse the pun; we are really into the trailer...)

There’s a particular scene where Aamir is reprimanding his son for beating up a couple of boys, but turns out that it was Geeta and Babita who had whacked the living daylights out of those boys. That one particular scene breaks stereotypes, puts women on top, and shows the world that you don’t need to depend on boys for laurels. How poignant is that?

The girls, Geeta and Babita, are gold. Whether as young girls who want to turn their lives around or as adults who don’t know what losing is, their character arcs are one of the highlights of the flick.

Sakshi Tanwar, who plays Aamir’s wife, is perfectly cast as the middle-aged wife who is equal parts protective and proud of her daughters.

And of course, Aamir Khan, in one of his most no-nonsense roles in a while, looks, walks, talks, and breathes the part. As a former wrestler who still strives to make his nation proud or as the focused father who wants his talented daughters win gold medals or as a player from his heydays, Aamir is PERFECT in every frame.

It’s a pleasure to watch him on the screen as he effortlessly delivers so many emotions without breaking a sweat.

The background score is apt and powerful. The dialogues are natural and rustic, the setting is beautiful and the stunts ferocious, yet elegant. It's the complete package. Trust us.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal stars Aamir Khan, Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim, and Suhani Bhatnagar, among others. It's slated to release on December 23.
