Freaky Ali - Sore and Stupid

Here is the review of Freaky Ali. Read to know how it fared at the box office.
Freaky Ali

Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Arbaaz Khan, Seema Biswas, Amy Jackson and Asif Basra

Rating: 1/5

At times I wonder if stars really go through the script and the plot before they sign a film or do they choose to act in some only for the sake of maintaining ‘healthy’ relationships. For many years now we have seen movies which lack a strong storyline but make some pennies only because of established and reputed actors. One such film is the latest Bollywood release, freaky Ali, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Arbaaz Khan and many more.

It is fairly easy to guess why Arbaaz chose to work in Sohail's film. But what made a versatile actor like Nawazuddin to choose a film with a weak and a lame plot? We hope to get an answer about this soon. Nevertheless...

... the movie opens with Ali (Nawazuddin) selling undergarments in a busy market and his fate has it again. He gets fired from the workplace. Disappointed Ali seeks almighty's help and his prayer is answered. Maqsood (Arbaaz), who works for a hooligan, asks Ali to join him in collecting ransom from the riches. On one fine day, while waiting for the money from rich man, Ali is challenged to play golf and prove his skills. An ardent fan of cricket and a superlative batsman proves his worth. Kishanlal (Asif Basra), Ali's friend who watches his impressive shots suggests him to learn golf and promises to teach him ways to excel at the game. Ali learns to play the game like a champion but comments and discrimination about the rich and the poor bother him. The then existing champion challenges him to win the championship, which Ali accepts with pride and is supported by his newly found friend and love Megha (Amy Jackson). What does he go through? How does he make to the final? Does he win the championship? These questions are answered in the rest of the film.

To be honest, the trailer is quite deceptive. The editor and the makers deserve a tap on the back for creating hype about the film. The visuals shown in the promo may interest one to pay some bucks at the theatres. But sigh, the film is nothing but sheer nonsense. Poor plot, shallow script and lame dialogues make the film unbearable. There are moments in the first half where you may once consider walking out of the film. Please feel free to do so because the second half is no-better.

The film is full of not so impressive visuals, below average music, used, already heard, double meaning jokes, forced sarcasm; absolutely nothing in the film will convince you to give it a thumbs-up.

Freaky Ali has a decent cast and popular faces, but because of the script and dialogues, even they fail to add interesting moments. The only silver lining in the film is Nawazuddin. His ease to adapt the character and deliver it with absolute finesse helps the movie to some extent. Arbaaz Khan, we believe has yet again tried to deliver his best, but alas.

There is some pun scattered in the movie, which you may have heard before and so it may make you laugh, but just for that moment. Otherwise, the movie has absolutely no entertainment factor. Besides being freakishly stupid, the story of Freaky Ali is sore and stupid.
