When Luv Ranjan’s comic fare Pyaar Ka Punchnaama came out in 2011, it became an instant hit. That was largely due to the crisp one-liners, frothy story line and sexist depiction (where problem yeh hai ki voh ladki hai). The makers have rebooted the runaway hit as Pyaar Ka Punchnaama 2, which promises to be bigger, better, and funnier…of course, it retains its sexist tinge too.
The trailer is as breezy and fun as a teenager’s fantasy. It has three boys wading through their love lives by being one other’s messiah, guide and buddy. As is typical with such teen drama, the trailer introduces us to the three dysfunctional couples where the boys are tormented by their nail colour-loving, pink lips-sporting and borderline dumb girlfriends.
While most of the situations ring true, the generalization of girls seem rather cringe-worthy. The trailer is dotted with witty liners that are whistle-worthy and we can hope for more in the movie too. Also, the girls look stunning in stylish clothes, bold make-up and in-style up dos. Even the background music is catchy and peppy, effortlessly merging into the theme of the movie.
It’s definitely a young, fresh and colourful take on relationships, girls vs boys, and friendships. It also takes us back to our younger days when we partied without much care, played with champagne bottles with gay abandon, and fretted over chipped nails and smudged lipsticks. That itself is the biggest plus of this trailer.
