TV Czarina Ekta Kapoor is all set to launch her new show Yeh Dil Sun Raha Hai on Sony PAL from 16 October. The show which stars Navi Bhangu and Aparna Dixit in lead roles is based in Bihar and will portray the love story of two people who were never meant to be together.
With rural areas forming the background of the new show, Ekta who is known for hitting the bull’s eye with every concept is hoping for an encore this time as well. We entered into a detailed conversation with her to know more. Excerpts from the interview…
Your show will be aired on a brand new channel. Any apprehensions?
Not at all. Even I was new at some point and someone placed a bet on me then. Every channel is new at some point and if a show is coming from my side, I will honestly want it to be my best for that channel. Also Anooj (Kapoor) has been doing really well with SAB TV and I have been wishing to work with him for long now. When he shifted here, I was all game for a show on PAL with him.
Tell us more about the venture?
I am really new to this kind of concept as most of my shows have been in the urban space. The thought of having characters existing in the same place but with different ideologies really fascinated me. One family is filthy rich but has double standards. The other is a normal middle class family who is progressive in thoughts. The show is about a different kind of love, the details of which I would not like to share right now.
Your show will be aired at 7pm which is not prime time…
(Cuts in) I have never had a show at the 7 pm time slot but then prime time is changing and shows are definitely doing well in these slots. And since the show will cater to the rural crowd, I wanted to catch the early slot. So I am looking forward to see how it works for me.
The promo sees a guy teasing a girl. Will it send the right message across?
In my show you will never see a woman disgraced. The promo is just a part of the plot. In real, the guy will get it back and very loud if he tries to misbehave with any woman. The females in my show have and will always be strong.
How difficult was it to make Bihar come alive on screen? What research did you undertake?
It was difficult and I had to meet so many people from the area as I could not access the place so closely. It was shocking to see people treat their own children differently as per their gender. It has been a learning experience and I hope people enjoy the show.
The characters look quite similar to the ones in Pratigya?
This is a very different story and will have no similarity.
Your shows always see a beautiful love story. What’s your own take on love?
The beauty of love is that you feel you own the world. And as much as you might think you are strange, love can make you stranger. Love only has the power to change someone and I feel love is the biggest form of karma.
Will we ever see you directing?
I don’t feel I have the talent to direct a show. I am happy doing whatever I have in hand, and don’t want to get into it (direction).
Which shows on TV do you enjoy watching?
I had decided to not watch TV long back. There are so many good shows on TV that if I watch them, I might lose sleep thinking about the competition. And if I watch my shows and find something wrong in them, I would lose sleep that way too. So I decided to stay away from TV although my team keeps me updated about the going-on from the television world.
