When television's leading ladies quit the limelight to go the family way or to simply take a break, their fans get sorely disappointed. Now with many of them making a comeback on the small screen, their fans are rejoicing the most (including yours truly!)
Sonali Bendre, who ruled Bollywood a couple of decades back, has recently made her small screen debut in Ajeeb Daastan Hain Yeh. She is as beautiful and glamorous as she was during her Bombay days. Even though the show is loosely based on award-winning American series The Good Wife, Bendre is giving it a desi twist in her own endearing ways.
We drum up a list of actresses who should come back to television. And soon.
Sakshi Tanwar:
Small screen's favorite 'bahu' was last seen in the highly popular Bade Acche Lagte Hain. The show not only made her a star, but also gave viewers an interesting 'adult' love story. Kudos to her for being a part of such a contemporary soap! We want her to come back to the small screen in a mature story like that. Let's hope that she takes a cue from Bendre and opts for an age-appropriate role!
Sangeeta Ghosh:
When she made a comeback of sorts with Kehta Hai Dil Jee Le Zara, we thought she would make it big once again. Sadly, that was not the case. Her comeback show turned out to be a disaster, although her acting was appreciated by critics and fans alike. Let's hope that the experience would not deter her from giving it another try soon. She can totally pull off both traditional and modern roles, isn't it?
Shveta Salve:
The dusky actress, known for her powerful performances and svelte figure, has been missing from the small screen for a long time. Post her marriage, we have hardly spotted the pretty lady at events and other Page 3 parties. We would love to have her back on TV in a dynamic role. Even though she was seen on dance reality shows, her absence from mainstream television has been felt by all her fans and followers.
Nausheen Ali Sardar:
When she burst onto the small screen with the titular role in 'Kusum', the nation went mad for her. We expected her to continue her lucky streak with other successful shows, which didn't happen. May be if she made her comeback now, during the times of content-driven soaps, she might be able to shine better. Fingers crossed!
Drashti Dhami:
Madhubala of the small screen was last seen as a host on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. But she was unceremoniously kicked out of the show because of low TRPs. We just hope that she doesn't lose sleep over it and makes a quick comeback in her comfortable genre soon! She was definitely one of the better looking actresses of the television industry. No?
Mona Singh:
The Ugly Betty of Indian TV has tried her hands at Bollywood, hosting reality shows and almost everything else. But her true calling is on the small screen and we do hope that she returns with a power-packed show. TV made her a star overnight, it can resurrect her career too. Are you reading this, Ms Singh?
Shweta Kawatra:
The popular vamp of television seems to be consciously staying away from the idiot box. We haven't spotted her at any parties or events, which is surprising as she was one of the most outgoing stars of her time. Hmm...what's cooking, eh?
Urvashi Dholakia:
Another vamp seems to have bid goodbye to fame. The feisty actress was last seen inside the Bigg Boss house. She hasn't made a prominent appearance on any other show, despite a massive fan following. We are sure that she can spice up shows with her acting prowess. Somebody cast her soon.
Aamna Sharif:
The petite actress made waves with Kahin Toh Hoga and became a household name. But quick fame turned into quicker disappearance as we haven't seen her on the small screen in ages. Despite a gorgeous face and decent acting skills, she seems to be getting a raw deal on television.
Rupali Ganguly:
We loved her in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and would definitely like to see her on screen again. Even though she was overshadowed on the show by Ratna Pathak Shah, Ganguly made for a interesting watch. The pretty actress can play a variety of roles with ease and we are looking forward to something interesting from her end.
Sanaya Irani:
Her last two shows were a hit and made her the most sought after star on the small screen. But the sudden cancellation of one of her shows pushed the actress out of our sight. We are sure that she will be back with something juicy soon.
Shilpa Anand:
Known for playing a variety of roles, the pretty actress has been missing from the arc lights for a while now. We want to see her in a powerful role soon. We have our fingers crossed, you?
Keerti Nagpure:
When she played a young mother on the small screen in Parichay, she proved her mettle as an actress. It takes a really talented artist to play a role that's so different from her real life persona. We hope to see her play something as interesting as her previous role soon. Will she? Won't she?
Rucha Hasabnis:
Last seen as the protagonist in the recently concluded Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, Hasabnis has been missing in action since August. Known for her acting prowess and dancing skills, the 26-year-old was quite a fishy star of the small screen. Like all her fans, we want her to make a comeback soon and entertain us with her antics on screen. Are you reading this, girl?
