With the Bigg Boss 19 Grand Finale just days away, viewer excitement is reaching a fever pitch as fans anticipate who will win the coveted trophy.
Amid the current season's buzz, former Bigg Boss Season 7 contestant and actor Apurva Agnihotri shared his thoughts on his time in the house and how he perceives the show's evolution.
Agnihotri noted a significant shift in the show's format, particularly regarding the challenges.
Earlier seasons were known for far more brutal tasks, which fans often recall as being "tough" and "no mercy" physical and mental challenges, a stark contrast to the format featured in recent years.
During Season 7, Apurva and fellow contestant Sangram Singh were required to shave their heads into “mohawks" as part of a demanding task, which was performed by their housemates on camera.
The intensity of this physical challenge was underscored by the emotional reaction of Apurva’s wife and co-contestant, Shilpa Saklani, who was visibly upset and struggled to contain her tears.
Apurva contrasted his experience with the current format, stating that the focus of the show has fundamentally shifted.
“I haven’t seen it, so I cannot comment. But ab mujhe lagta hai, it’s less about tasks and more about, you know, how you project yourself… Tasks mein toh ab log bhi interested nahi hain… We were in the 7th season, which was Bigg Boss 7. Toh us waqt ideology sab kuch different tha’’. He quoted
"This is 19… In the seven, eight years, a lot has changed. I think people have changed, contestants have changed… Unka hai ki, yaar, I’m gonna leave a mark, so that I get more work," Apurva explained.
Apurva Agnihotri further commented on the evolving casting strategy of Bigg Boss.
He noted that there are now fewer television actors participating compared to the earlier seasons, and the show is including more contestants from diverse backgrounds.
The cast of his season, Bigg Boss 7, included several notable personalities such as Apurva and his wife Shilpa Saklani, Andy Kumar, Armaan Kohli, Kushal Tandon, and the late Pratyusha Banerjee. Gauahar Khan was the winner of that season.
