Delnaz Paul, the perky Sweetu of Karan Johar's Kal Ho Na Ho has walked out of Sab TV's Yes Boss.
Paul says she had a problem in date adjustment, to which director Rajan Wagdhare apparently turned a Nelson's eye. "Even top production houses like Balaji Telefilms' help out artistes in this regard. Looking at his attitude, I felt claustrophobic."
Wagdhare however insists that Paul's demand for adjustment was impossible to comply with. "When she started shooting for Johar's film, we went out of our way to help her. Now when we shoot for eight days in a month, she wants to attend for just three days. Surely, we cannot be so accommodating. We have been working on this project with bulk dates format since a long time. We cannot disturb that now. We have to submit eight episodes to the channel in eight days. We can't be dancing to the whims and fancies of any artiste," he complained.
Wagdhare also says that he believes Paul had become too big for her boots after the success of Kal Ho Na Ho. "She directly wrote a letter to Markand Adhikari (SAB TV vice chairman) saying she was leaving the serial as she was not happy with her role. Shouldn't she have first informed me? She didn't even discuss this with me. She is not the same person I knew. Post Kal Ho Na Ho, she was just not interested in my serial," he remarks.
When questioned, Delnaz fumed, "Wagdhare is lying through his teeth. I have given my sweat, toil and labour to this show for four years. How can I give step-motherly treatment to it? I had asked him for only two half-day adjustments in the April schedule for which he made me terribly miserable. I had to shoot for Milenge Milenge and he could have allowed me to go if he wanted to. I have not changed after Kal Ho Na Ho, Wagdhare is lying again when he says that he went out of his way to adjust my dates for Kal Ho Na Ho shoot. I was almost made to cry before I left. I was even told to choose the show or the film. Plus recently, he was behaving too secretive about telling me anything of my scenes in advance. Worse, he would adjust the dates of other actors."
Delnaz admits that she is indebted to Wagdhare and the rest of the crew for Yes Boss. " I would even say that I got Kal Ho Na Ho because of Yes Boss. I worked for four years on this project and I know Wagdhare since the days of Colgate Top 10. Plus I have deep respect for the Adhikari brothers, which will always remain. I am not an insensitive person," she says, adding, "This is precisely why I am deeply hurt."
Apart from Milenge Milenge starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, Paul will also be soon seen in Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha starring Salman Khan, Priety Zinta and Bhumika Chawla.
Last heard, Ritu Kango (last significant role in Zee's Amaanat) has stepped into Paul's boots.
