My comments over the 'intolerance debate' were misconstrued, misrepresented and misinterpreted: SRK

Shah Rukh Khan

The Badshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, believes that his comments over the ‘intolerance debate’ were misconstrued, misrepresented and misinterpreted.

The actor said this while addressing a press conference in Kolkata last night. Khan was asked to express his views and feelings on the recent controversy over his reported remark and the protests that followed.

He said, “I speak what I want to say; but to be honest I don’t know how often I can say that lot of things. And sometimes, what I say are misunderstood, misrepresented and perhaps misinterpreted sometimes.”

"I have not said anything for which I should apologize. I am not in a stage that I need to clarify. People of this country know me. Perhaps they (the media) did not understand what I said,” he added.

However, the actor also mentioned that the country has showered him with love.

“I have received love from every corner of this country in spite of religion, cast, creed, gender. And the only way I can return that love is through my work and I try my best to do that. I succeed sometimes and sometimes I fail. It also saddens me when any of my work cannot reach out to the people. I feel extremely sad when I receive messages on WhatsApp and social media that my film is being stopped in theatres,” said the actor.

The screening of his latest flick ‘Dilwale’ at theatres was stopped by Bajrang Dal activists to protest against his comments on intolerance. Despite this fact, the film is doing whooping business and crossed Rs 100 crore mark worldwide in three days of its release.
