It’s the year of women. With hard-hitting movies being planned with actresses in the lead, it sure looks like a great phase for the naaris of the industry.
Here are five films that put women on top…(erm, figuratively!). Read on:
Chalk N Duster:
Juhi Chawla and Shabana Azmi come together in this educational drama that tells us the importance pf our teachers. The feisty duo play teachers with a purpose. The trailer looks interesting, and it’s the first movie in the women-centric series to come out this year.
Neerja:
Sonam Kapoor is excited to show off her acting skills in the biopic, Neerja. The taut drama is based on real life events involving a brave flight attendant, who lost her life while saving those of her passengers. The premise is certainly amazing.
Jai Gangaajal:
The Quantico-trained Priyanka Chopra kicks a mean ass in Jai Gangaajal. She is one helluva actress, so it comes as no surprise to see her in a cop role in this to-be released drama.
Ki and Ka:
In R Balki’s coming-of-age drama, Kareena Kapoor plays an independent and modern role. The director’s previous movies have always portrayed progressive women, so it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see Kareena as a non-stereotyped character. Till we get more details on the plot, we will keep the discussion open…say what, people?
Aye Dil Hai Mushkil:
The fact that an older actress is being paired with a younger actor in a movie is a cause for celebration itself. Aishwarya Rai-Bacchan plays a significant role opposite the much younger Ranbir Kapoor in this most-awaited flick of 2016.
With reports of the senior actress refusing to share a liplock with Ranbir, it definitely looks like the two play lovers in the movie. Or even if they don’t, it’s a step ahead in gender equality for sure.
