Shocking: Actress found begging and stealing on Mumbai roads

Mitali Sharma

If the Pratyusha Banerjee suicide case was not sad enough, a tragic story of an actress’ career gone wrong has hit headlines.

Almost a déj? vu of the famous Gitanjali Nagpal story, Oshiwara police have found an actress begging and stealing on the roads of Lokhandwala, Mumbai.

As per an article in a national tabloid, resident of Delhi, 25 years old Mitali Sharma, took to stealing after her career stalled and her parents abandoned her for pursuing her dreams of becoming an actor.

The cops found Mitali attempting to smash the window of a car near a housing society. The two lady officers who approached her were assaulted by the actress. She pushed one of them and bit the other before she finally subdued to them.

While being questioned, Mitalis shared that she has acted in a Bhojpuri film, and also a couple of modelling assignments. She slipped into depression after her career stalled.

With no claims being received yet, the police are now trying to ascertain as to how and when she came to Mumbai and trying to connect with her family.

Based on her appearance, the cops think she has been roaming on the streets for a couple of days. They also suspect she had not eaten anything as she demanded food when she was caught.

The actress has been admitted to a mental asylum in Thane.

Senior inspector Subhash Khanvilkar, Oshiwara while talking to the tabloid stated, "She is not in a normal state of mind. We are at present trying to locate her family."

According to the doctors of the mental hospital, Mitali has not spoken a word since her admission. Dr Anjali Deshpande, of Thane Mental hospital was also quoted saying, "She will take at least ten days to return to a normal state. Only then can we speak to her. She is in a bad shape and requires medical assistance. We have kept her under observation."

Earlier in 2007, once a popular model, Gitanjali was similarly discovered living off the streets and spending her nights in parks and temples.
