Bollywood stalwart Mahesh Bhatt is all set to launch his ambitious project Naamkarann on Star Plus.

Starring Barkha Bisht Sengupta, Viraf Patel and Arsheen Namdar in the lead roles, the daily is loosely based on the filmmaker’s life.

As viewers would know, he has already experimented with the subject through his movies Janam and Zakhm.

When Tellychakkar.com asked him if he was confident that TV audience will be able to connect with such a bold subject he said, “Of course they would. It is stupid on our part to underestimate the intelligence of our audience. They accepted such stories with open arms years back in 1985 (when Janam released) and I am certain, Naamkarann will also turn out to be a milestone.”

Stating that people now consider TV as a dumped down medium, he is all set to revive the same.  “Our show will bring about a significant change in the way TV content is presented. The story is more character based and I think we have some wonderful actors to live the story onscreen. We will bring back the glory of Buniyaad and Mahabharat back. The show is not on surface level but will run deep straight into the hearts of viewers. We are coming with a clear belief, that when everyone is going for the dazzle we are here to connect and touch base with our audience. We will bring the nation together and blow their hearts away,” he quipped.

With every show facing the brunt of ratings, we asked Mahesh if he has prepped up himself to get into the battle.  The talented man with a natural calmness said, “I am in the trade for 45 years and I must say we belong to a merciless industry. We are in the business of entertainment and whenever you are pitching a project money should come in return. The possibility of a fall makes it exciting and seeks me to stay alive in my game and win it hands down.”

With Star Plus going the ‘show runner’ way by putting a writer as the sole responsibility for handling a project, we asked Mahesh about his take on the same. “Although I do not have the entire bandwidth to comment on this, I can say it is a great move to help a show architect in a better way. Star has been kind and not peeped into our space and gave us the liberty to create Naamkarann the way we wanted. Writing is our forte and we will be responsible towards it. If we have been given the freedom, we will respect it and bring the best out of the show.

And finally stating that it is only Naamkarann in his mind at the moment, he did mention that TV is fulfilling and he loves the medium dearly.
