MUMBAI: The show A Date To Remember has been recently launched on MTV. Since its inception, the series has constantly found itself engulfed in controversy for various reasons.
For the uninitiated, earlier the show had Prince Narula and Yuvika Chaudhary as mentors. However, things took a nasty turn, when the duo walked out of the project and newbie Divya Aggarwal replaced them. In fact, in an exclusive interview with TellyChakkar, Prince and Yuvika had called the makers of the show, “unprofessional.” There were also allegations that the makers charged money from aspiring contestants to participate in the competition.
Now TellyChakkar exclusively got in touch with Indeep Bakshi who is one of the mentors on the show along with Manu Punjabi and Divya Aggarwal. Bakshi is also one of the producers of the series.
About A Date To Remember, he said, “If you compare this show with Roadies, then let me tell you, this is a big show. The comfort one will get here is going to be completely different. You can’t compare the first season of a new show with the fourteenth season of a popular show.”
About Prince and Yuvika, he said, “Honestly, they never came in the show; they were only a part of the audition rounds. I want to work with them. I wanted them to be a part of the show from day one. But it’s not my individual’s show. I was really comfortable with them. Personally, I feel, if they were a part of it, the show would have been better.”
Asked about Prince and Yuvika’s allegation and Indeep accepted all of it with humility.
He shared, “They were right on the unprofessional part. That was the initial time and even I was not the producer, so I felt the same. We even used to discuss that things aren’t in place. Therefore, once I turned producer, I got everything in a proper place. In fact, we even auditioned Divya for the role of a mentor. That’s the level of professionalism we’ve brought in.”
When quizzed whether the contestants were asked to pay an amount or not, Bakshi negated the claim outright and said, “Lots of friends of mine even today say that one needs to pay money to participate in Roadies. Now such things do crop up but of course, this is completely wrong. Why would they give money? We are financially stable. Unlike other shows, the contestants of our show come from a very generic background and from very rich families.”
Indeep, however, doesn’t feel that Prince and Yuvika’s show will hamper their show’s popularity. On this, he said, “The start of any show is always a struggle. But at the end, the product matters the most. We might not get great viewership the first time, but possibly the word of mouth might get us more viewership. Yeah, without them the buzz may get affected but the product matters.”
The hot and drooling Indeep has made sure to not lose his musical aspect and as a result he has given the music for the show. Interestingly, to save the copyright budget, Bakshi himself has composed background scores.
