MUMBAI: Television is one of the fastest growing mediums, so much so that even Bollywood biggies are now venturing into television projects.
Audiences have always appreciated the performances of their favourite actors, but we tend to overlook the efforts of technicians who work endlessly to make a project hit. In order to recognize their efforts in television production, editing, writing, direction, distribution, and creation, IndianTelevision.com presents the 15th edition of our annual Indian Telly Technical Trade and Programming Awards.
A director of photography’s (DOP) job is rather difficult. He or she tries to make every frame of the shoot magical by using creativity. Apart from coordinating with lighting and setting departments, a DOP makes sure that the delivered content is beautiful and eye pleasing.
TellyChakkar got in touch with one of the best DOPs in business, Hrishikesh Gandhi, to gain an insight on the job.
Hrishikesh, better known as Hrishi daa in telly town, has a very pleasing and happy-go-lucky personality. He has mega-hit projects like Beintehaa, Geet – Hui Sabse Parayi, and Qubool Hai to his credit and is working on popular shows like Tujhse Hai Raabta and Papa By Chance.
Talking about his profession Hrishikesh said, ‘A DOP’s job is to set up the camera, do lighting, and basically make everything in the frame look nice and realistic. It’s a challenging job.’
Talking about his journey, he said ‘I was interested in photography. I did still and wedding videography. My aim was to do photography in films and television. With the help of a few references, I got introduced to Marathi television. Then, slowly, I got into Hindi television. I got introduced to Barnun Mukherjee and assisted him on movies like Baghban and Baabul. After learning the art from him, I decided to become an independent DOP.’
We asked him about the best scene that he has shot so far. He shared, ‘There are many, but my work in Qubool Hai remains my favourite.’
