MUMBAI: Saand Ki Aankh is an upcoming biographical film. Directed by Tushar Hiranandani and produced by Anurag Kashyap, Reliance Entertainment and Nidhi Parmar, the film stars Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles and will release on 25 October. In the film, the actresses will be seen playing roles double their ages.
However, some people felt that senior actresses should have been cast instead of them. This sparked off a big controversy and in no time, Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel lashed out at Taapsee. Even senior actress like Neena Gupta, who has been getting good roles of late, tweeted, “Yes, I was just thinking about this hamari umar ke role toe kamsekam hamse karalo bhai."
Speaking about the ageism controversy, Bhumi said to SpotboyE.com, “She (Rangoli) is another person in the Twitterverse. She is not from the acting world, she is not a colleague, we haven’t seen any of her work. So, she has an opinion that we heard. We don’t have to agree with every opinion because every debate has two sides to it.”
Taapsee has also reacted on Rangoli’s ‘Acting Ka A Bhi Nahin Aata’ comment. Taapsee said to the portal, “Haan nahi aata. Phir bhi picturein mil rahi hain, kya karun? We should question the directors, why are they coming to me? I am sorry but I have signed some 4 films, so you will have to bear with me.” Not just this, Bhumi also added to Taapsee’s sharp reply and said, “True, audiences are also silly na?”
For the uninitiated, Rangoli had tweeted, “Acting ka A bhi nahin aata & comparing urself to all legends. Bhai ja thodi acting seekh le tacky silver hair & sasta prosthetic won’t make u an actor,wat about body language f a 60 year old? Where is the aged voice?Longing fr gone youth in one’s eyes?Where is acting, So funny!(sic)”
