Vaidehi gears up for another Agni Pareeksha

With a scramble for eyeballs, it's a season of revamps and repositioning at Sony Entertainment Television. After Rishton Ki Dor and Akela, it's now time for Vaidehi Ek Aur Agni Pareeksha to witness some changes! But this time around, the channel strategy looks like introducing changes never seen before. Vaidehi, the prime time one hour weekly, which was launched a few months ago to beef up the 10 pm band, will soon turn into a daily.
For those uninitiated, Vaidehi, produced by Aroona Irani, began as a story of a middle class girl with stars in her eyes and dreams in her heart but eventually she gets caught in an unusual situation. The serial also dared to deal with the topic of impotency, untouched by the Indian television before. So, what could be the real reasons for this major turnaround? One of the many reasons perhaps could be to feed on the audience's taste for daily shows. Adds Pallavi Kulkarni, the lead protagonist in the show, "We're living in age of weeklies. So, it's a little difficult for the audience to remember the weekly timeslot of a show. Also, now they are used to watching soaps for hours together." According to the actor, the show is not doing very well nor it is doing terribly bad. "The show is doing okay at this point of time. But making it a daily will certainly boost its TRPs and visibility," states Pallavi. Most of the stars we spoke to believe that Vaidehi with its unconventional storyline has a lot of potential. The parallel lead on the show, Manav Gohil who portrays the character of Neel is extremely happy with the progress of the show. "The storyline of the show can definitely be pulled off as a daily. At the end of the day, it's a very powerful show and I am very sure we will be able to pull it off very well," says Manav. Sachin Sharma who's also very excited about this development says,"Yes, we will now be a daily! And that calls for a lot of responsibilities as well." Currently the show airs on Mondays from 10.pm to 11.pm, but now it will be slotted as a half an hour at 10.30 p.m. This in effect means that it will have to fight the stiff competition from Star Plus' Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. But looks like, the cast doesn't really fear this."We are open to challenges and are aware of our competitors," says Pallavi. So will the revamped daily Vaidehi stand up to the Agni Pareeksha on the TRPs front? Only time will tell!
