Lockdown has increased social media usage, say actors

MUMBAI: The use of social media has greatly increased after the lockdown as it has become one of the prime ways for us to communicate with the rest of the world. While some people are posting encouraging stuff to help others, others are posting stuff about their daily routine and how they are keeping busy. A poll shows that now people are logged on for 280 mins a day compared to the 150 minutes before lockdown. Actors give their take on this!

Arun Mandola: After the lockdown, I was not very active on social media because I was focusing on learning from and enjoying watching movies and series. But yes, I have seen lots of people posting encouraging stuff to help other people and that is good because it gives motivation to other people. Few people are motivating people to show their daily routine life. That's true, people are more addicted to social media these days because people don’t have any work, so all of them are scrolling on social media. I think this is their own choice if they are happy to spend time on social media, then they should continue.

Vijayendra Kumeria: It's true that during this lockdown, social media has become a tool to keep oneself busy. But at the same time, social media addiction is on the rise anything in excess is not good. I am on social media and I think it is a great way to connect with your fans and also giving out good messages. But I consciously make it a point that I am not online all the time, peeping into people's profiles. I post pictures and sometimes workout videos too. I am personally okay sharing a slice of my personal life but I cannot offer the whole cake to the public.

Priyanka Biswas: In this period of a current lockdown situation, undoubtedly social media is playing a huge role in maintaining the long-distance relationship between people. It's also helping people by updating them with the current status of this pandemic and strengthening themselves for the upcoming situations. During this lockdown period, I am focusing on health, which indeed is mandatory and therefore I am continuously posting healthy, delicious and feasible recipes which anyone can cook. Social media plays a vital role in our life as it has given a chance to everyone to open up.

Shweta Rohira: I have always loved social media as I call it my digital album. And I have always posted what I like. I keep posting the videos I make of me painting or I have live sessions where I am interacting with people. I talk about the books I am reading and what I am cooking. I am making the most of my time in this quarantine. I have also realised that people are logged in more as it’s one of the important mediums to watch and entertain themselves.

Sudipto Balav: The use of social media during the lockdown has certainly increased and yes, I completely agree that people are putting up all kinds of posts; starting from cooking, gardening, playing with pets, singing, whatever it is. Some of them are encouraging and some of them are constantly speaking about COVID-19. As far as me posting on social media is concerned, I haven’t actually posted anything much related to the lockdown. My film extraction released during this pandemic so I have been actually posting things related to that.

Vikas Sethi: People have been addicted to social media and the Internet much before. Only the usage has gone up because people are at home and have nothing to do. I think we are all addicted to it and when we will get back to our normal lives, the ratio will automatically go down. We are seeing at a lot of stuff like people are encouraging each other and all big actors are telling us to stay at home. This is a great way to connect with your fans during this time.

Jasmin Bhasin: This I also noticed that as we are all in lockdown, our social media usage has become too much. In fact, I am also online more than I used to be before. I am playing online games and I am reading stuff online. I feel people will get more addicted to it. I am saying this from own personal experience because I am getting really addicted to being online, playing games, reading stuff. I don’t think there is anything to worry about because as soon as the lockdown will get over and we will be back to our normal life, I think we will not have any choice.

Rishina Kandhari: Social media was booming even when the lockdown wasn't there but it is booming more now as we all are at home. There are no shoots happening. Social media is for us and not the other way round. Anything in excess is dangerous. Too much showing off is just not needed. I post what I like to share with my followers like activities like cooking which I am doing. Social media shouldn't be overused. Some novelty is there in keeping yourself mysterious rather than putting everything on Instagram.

niruddh Dave: Social media usage might have increased due to this lockdown, but for me, it is the same as it was before. I am posting all throwback picture which I have not posted till now and am also posting working stills. This is a good chance to remember all the people who I have worked with. I am more active on Twitter than Instagram. On Twitter, I just write about the social-political issues and circumstances going on in today’s scenario. Bache se leke Bachchan tak, everyone is posting encouraging video. I have become more active on twitter and have been replying to people as well. I just repost pictures that fans post specially for me to make them happy.
