MUMBAI: After delivering some amazing hits like Asur, Illegal and a few others Voot Select is back with another amazing series title Candy. Ever since the trailer of the series was out the fans were eagerly waiting for the show as it promised to be one of the best thrillers directed by Ashish R. Shukla the show stars Ronit Roy, Richa Chadha, Manu Rishi Chadha, Gopal Datt, Nakul Roshan Sahdev and Riddhi Kumar. Finally the show premiered today and here is the full review.
Talking about the premise of the show the series begins with a brutal murder of a school student and to investigate this case comes inspector Ratna played by Richa Chadda. On the other hand the school students are getting targeted for the drugs which are mixed in the Candy. The city of Rudrakund is also terrorized with the horrifying stories of a monster called Masaan. Who is this Masaan? And who is behind these brutal murders? Is something amazingly shown in this web series.
Talking about the screenplay, the screenplay of the first 3 episodes may attract your interest because of the poor screenplay but the story picks up after the 4th episode and the screenplay is brilliantly written after that. Also the direction given by Ashish R. Shukla is amazing and also the location and the camera work is amazing throughout the series.
Talking about the performances, no doubt this is one of the best works of actor Ronit Roy, we get to see some different shades of the actor in this particular web series itself. On the other hand actress Richa Chadda impresses you as Inspector Ratna, some of these strong scenes and dialogues are given to the actress and she managed to pull it off very well. Actor Nakul Roshan Sahdev is the surprise factor in this web series, the actor with his solid screen presence will surely keep you invested in the web series. Manu Rishi Chadha, Gopal Datt and Riddhi Kumar on their part will surely impress you.
The positive point of the web series is the storytelling, we have seen many series made on drugs, but the director had treated this series in a unique way. Also we get to see some strong performances with every actor in this web series. Some horror elements will surely keep you hooked and booked to your seats which help a lot to craft the suspense. Every episode ends with a big twist and this is one of the major USPs of the show.
Talking about the negative points of the show, the screenplay of the first 3 episodes is loosely written and you may not be fully invested in the show. The horror and thriller scenes especially during the screen presence of the character of Masaan is very less throughout the series, you would want to see more of Masaan and the horror element in the show.
Well having said all these points Candy is indeed one of the best made thrillers in recent times, and it surely should be in your watch list this weekend.
Team TellyChakkar goes with 3.5/5 for Candy.
