MUMBAI : After the Oscars, the Grammy Awards also omitted legendary Indian playback singer Lata Mangeshkar in the In Memoriam section during the ceremony. This has left her fans extremely upset. The 2022 Grammys’ In Memoriam section paid tribute to songs by the late Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim. Taylor Hawkins and Tom Parker were also remembered.

The award function has made it to the headlines for many reasons, but it is also received flak as in the Memoriam segment, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar’s mention was not there. Lata ji, along with late singer-composer Bappi Lahiri, did get a mention on Grammys’ website.

A fan tweeted, “Telling me one of the world’s BIGGEST music icon #LataMangeshkar died this year and couldn’t get mention in the Grammy “in memoriam”? Truly a rubbish show indeed.” Another fan posted, “#GRAMMYs #LataMangeshkar Grammys just remembered #all musicians who died last year. Missing #LataMangeshkar they missed big.” One more fan tweeted, “Wow Grammys didn't even to bother mentioning #LataMangeshkar . Do you even know her level and contribution to song and music? #GRAMMYs.”

Have a look.

Lata Mangeshkar started her singing journey in the 1940s. She was given multiple titles like Queen of Melody, Nightingale of India, and Voice of the Millennium.

Lata ji was the recipient of many awards, including Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, and Padma Bhushan. Her solos and immortal duets with Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Mukesh, along with a legion of other prominent Indian singers, are among Hindi cinemas most memorable songs.

Lata Mangeshkar recorded her last song ‘Saugandh Mujhe Is Mitti Ki’, which was composed by Mayuresh Pai, as a tribute to the Indian Army and nation. It was released in 2019.
