Ishq Vishk Rebound

MUMBAI: Ishq Vishk, released in 2003, a movie that showed the innocence, cuteness and complications of college romance was loved by the audience and is considered as one of the most memorable movies. The cast of the movie was pretty impressive. It consisted of Shahid Kapoor, Shenaz Treasurywala and Amrita Rao. The trio became an instant hit but what caught everyone’s attention was Shahid Kapoor, the chocolaty star of that movie. The Ken Ghosh directorial had a freshness in those days which somehow still manages to entertain the audience.

Now, Nipun Dharmadhikari is here with a reboot of the 2003 film, Ishq Vishk Rebound. The word ‘Rebound’ itself should give you hint enough to know who the target audience here is. So for everyone who is wondering, yes, this is once again a college romance that involves a little bit of friendship, and a lot of confusion.

Firstly, Kudos to Rohit Saraf for taking the whole weight of the movie on his shoulders, even though it wasn’t really a necessity as the weight could have been distributed well but let’s take things forward.

The narration of the story, the direction, the screenplay and the music is great and fresh. The movie hooks you up right from the beginning. The direction is a fresh for the time and brings a fun element. Yes, we understand that a lot of 90s kids are complaining for the remakes but over here the remakes are decent and fortunately they have not destroyed it. We can here lot of acoustic touch in the sounds rather than just electro or EDM vibe in the songs which is very thoughtful.

When talking about the performances, Pashmina Roshan plays the character of Sanya, Rohit Saraf plays the character of Raghav, Jibraan Khan plays the character of Sahir and Naila Grrewal plays the character of Riya.

Firstly, Pashmina Roshan almost steals the show while Rohit Saraf stays in the centre. Jibraan Khan deserved a little more attention as the friendship element needed a little more justification and a little more effect.

Naila Grrewal’s presence on the screen was stronger than anybody, brought a lot of maturity and she definitely deserved more screentime but here’s what you will notice - Even in scenes when Naila Grrewal isn’t present, she will still be there in your mind and you want to see more of her.

Last but definitely not the least, Rohit Saraf, who steals the show as we all understand the character. However, it wasn’t a relatable character and would sometimes make you question his decision and at times it will make you laugh with the consequences for those decisions.

While this about the leads, we cannot ignore the stability, the resolve, the clarity and the strong yet soft breeze of emotions brought by the Supriya Pilgaonkar, Sheeba Chaddha, Akarsh Khurana, and Shilpa Vishal Shetty. Even Shataf Figar and Anita Kulkarni do a great job as Sahir’s parents. Not to forget, Kusha Kapila’s performance, which definitely adds a spark in scenes.

Yes, the movie is entertaining but here’s a mental prep kit for that - Watch it if you can keep Ishq Vishk out of your mind and treat this movie as a standalone movie. The writing is genius so kudos to Vaishali Naik, Vinay Chhawal, and Ketan Pedgaonkar. Also, Lisha bajaj and Akarsh Khurana for the dialogues.

In conclusion, the movie could have shown much stronger friendship to involve love and complications in it but what’s shown is also entertaining enough. All-in-all, it was a good movie with still a lot of spots open for improvement.

Tellychakkar gives this movie 2/5.
