MUMBAI : Veteran actor Manisha Koirala, recently featured in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Heeramandi', shared an early career experience where a renowned photographer requested her to pose in a two-piece bikini. Although she regularly swims in a bikini, she felt it was unnecessary for the photoshoot and declined. In an interview with the popular news portal, she recalled the incident.

She stated, "Very early on in my career I was asked to take photographs by a very famous photographer. I went with my mom, and initially, he said things like, 'You are the next superstar.' Then he brought a two-piece bikini and asked me to wear it. I told him, 'Sir, I wear this when I go to the beach or for a swim, but if this is the way I have to get into the movies, I don't want it, and I am not wearing that.'"
After getting to know her attitude, the photographer told her off. She recalled, "I told him either you shoot me fully clothed, otherwise I am. He gave me a big dialogue, 'Jo mitti pighalne se sharmati ho uske murti kaise banaye (The clay that refuses to melt, how do I make a statue from it?).' I have not forgotten that."
Manisha admitted that this was the mentality of some people during the 90s. She also recalled that the same photographer had to click her later in her career, when she had become a big star, and he quickly ate his words, saying, "Oh, I knew you were going to be a big star."
While Manisha was unhappy with his behavior at the same time, she also understood his perspective, "Not to be mean to the person, but that was their conscience. Their exposure was that, so they behaved like that," she added.
Manisha portrayed the significant character of Malikajaan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's debut web series Heeramandi, earning widespread acclaim for her performance. Prior to this, she appeared in Kartik Aaryan's 2023 film Shehzada.
