MUMBAI: Actor Danish Sood is set to portray Gurbaaz Singh Kahlon, a national-level skeet rifle shooter, in the upcoming show Naam Namak Nishan on Amazon Mini. He stars alongside Varun Sood, with a supporting cast that includes Helly Shah, Karan Vohra, and Roshni Wali.
Danish pushed the envelope to prepare for the role which entailed rigorous military training and sports as well. Speaking about this rigorous training he said, “I had to put in long hours of training for the role. It required a certain amount of fitness and a specific body language which can come with doing the drill hands on. There are no shortcuts. I also interacted with army cadets, observed their lifestyle and replicated it my own way. I gained a lot of insights into the challenges they face, their day-to-day routine, the level of discipline and rigmarole they are subjected to. The sheer dedication, determination and discipline, it was eye opening for me, just to understand how selfless one has to be to be a part of the defence sector”.
He added, “As actors we get to lead different lives and this was my closest brush with men in service. I’m really thankful for this role because it has added immense learning and respect to the men and women who lead the army life. Just that little bit of exposure really turned my whole life around. Training and preparing for this role got me so much more disciplined, right from waking up very early, to my diet, fitness regime and the additional coaching I had to take through the day.“
To authentically portray Gurbaaz Singh Kahlon, Danish went through specialized training in skeet shooting, boxing, and basketball. "In the show, my character is a national-level skeet rifle shooter. I had a couple of classes for the show, and there are scenes where I showcase my craft. It's quite a difficult sport," Danish shared. He also focused on building a physique that reflected the athletic nature of his character, blending a sporty appearance with the essence of someone from "pind".
Danish Sood is known for his versatile performances across various acclaimed projects. Apart from CAT and Gulmohar, Danish has starred in Jugaadistan for Lionsgate Films, directed by Akarsh and Aadhaar Khurana, and appeared in The Fame Game for Netflix, a project by Dharmatics, directed by Bejoy Nambiar, Karishma Kohli, and Sri Rao. He is also a talented singer-songwriter and audio producer. He composed the song Jaanu Na for Season 2 of Mismatched on Netflix.
