MUMBAI: Throughout her career, Deepika Padukone has produced a number of hits and blockbusters. Since last year, the actress has had a string of consecutive hits. But did you know that she turned down the first Indian movie to break into the Rs 500-crore club?
Yes, the movie featuring two superstars and a 13-year-old star became the first in Indian history to collect Rs 500 crore at the box office. In the film, the antagonist was the star. Dhoom 3 is the film we are talking about.
Action thriller Dhoom 3 stars Uday Chopra, Abhishek Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, and Aamir Khan. Jackie Shroff and Siddharth Nigam played significant roles in the movie as well. The movie, which had an incredible budget of Rs 175 crore, was the priciest movie at the time. Sidharth Nigam, then 13 years old, made his screen debut in the movie and went on to become a star, going on to feature in other popular TV series.
Katrina Kaif was not the original pick for the film, despite the fans loving her chemistry with Aamir Khan. Deepika Padukone was offered the movie before Katrina. She did, however, decline the role in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, starring Ranbir Kapoor and directed by Ayan Mukerji. At the box office, the movie was likewise a big success.
In the meantime, Dhoom 3 became a global box office success, grossing over Rs 550 crore. The movie broke records for previous Indian movies by becoming the first to ever make it into the Rs 500-crore club. There is a relationship between the film and Sachin Tendulkar.
