MUMBAI: Ever since her role in the 2001 movie Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, Dia Mirza has been a part of our hearts without any conditions. After being released in theaters for 23 years, the cult classic starring R Madhavan and Dia Mirza in the major roles is making a comeback. For those who don't know, Dia made her acting debut in RHTDM, but the movie was a box office failure. The actress was then removed from a number of projects. Dia now discussed the increasing public interest in her first feature picture.
Dia revealed in an interview that the team's reaction when the movie Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein did not meet the expectations of the viewers. Speaking about it, the actress revealed that everyone was inconsolable and that after RHTDM failed at the box office, she was even fired from other projects. She said, “We were all devastated! I remember being dropped from many projects.”
But after being shown on television, the movie became well-known, and a few years later, social media chatter about it elevated it to cult status. Dia described it as a "discovery," noting that the 2001 movie still receives a lot of love from viewers and that this understanding has enabled her to realize why the movie appeals to moviegoers.
She revealed, “The film attained a cult status purely due to the extraordinary love the audience continues to give the film. It helped me discover how little box office matters to a film that genuinely connects with people. It's a gift that keeps giving.”
On her experience of working with R Madhavan and Saif Ali Khan, Dia said, “Maddy had already done the movie in the south (the Tamil film Minnale). He knew his character arc well. I often felt like he was a mentor on set, guiding, advising and generally being the gentleman he is. Today, we share a bond that has grown over the years. Saif was always making me laugh. I loved spending time with him. He instantly put me at ease with his candour and humour.”
