MUMBAI: With nearly 48 lakh weddings expected to take place in India over the next 60 days, wedding season is in full swing, bringing with it the quintessential glamour, traditions, and evolving trends that define modern Indian celebrations. Actress Devanggana Chauhan known for her roles in popular shows like Drive with Nano (season 3), Dhadkan Zindaggi Kii, Sapnon Ki Chhalaang, and Saavi Ki Savaari, shares her insights on the grand affair that is the Indian wedding today.

When asked about her views on the upcoming wedding season and the staggering number of couples tying the knot, Devanggana responded warmly. "This is such a huge number! I feel that if you find the right partner, then there is no reason to hold back from marriage. In fact, I would love to get married if I meet the right person. Who knows, maybe by the next wedding season, we’ll be talking about my wedding!” she said with a smile.

Discussing the extravagant celebrity weddings that inspire countless couples, Devanggana explained, “Marriage is a union where two people and their families come together and decide everything mutually. Celebrities often choose destination weddings with just close friends and family—50 to 100 people—so they can truly enjoy their special day. When you invite a lot of people, it often becomes more about managing the event than celebrating it. Personally, I believe intimate weddings allow you to enjoy the moments without the pressure.”

On the recent trend of extensive pre- and post-wedding ceremonies, Devanggana expressed her excitement. "I see it as an opportunity for lots of photos, videos, and, of course, memories. Today, there are so many different functions—from pre-wedding festivities to after-parties and cocktails. It’s an incredible chance to create memories that will last a lifetime. I absolutely love it!". She also highlighted the growing demand for wedding anchoring as a key part of these elaborate events. "Anchoring adds life and energy to every ceremony. A good anchor can engage the guests, bring the family together, and ensure that everyone feels connected to the celebrations. Whether it's games, storytelling, or creating moments of laughter, anchoring is a special art that elevates the entire experience."

However, Devanggana acknowledged that weddings today seem to cater more to social media than personal enjoyment. “This is something that really saddens me,” she admitted. “Everything these days is curated for social media, and often, couples and their photographers are under immense pressure to create that ‘viral’ moment. In focusing on filming everything, we sometimes forget to just live in the moment. I truly believe in enjoying each moment rather than creating content for others.”

When asked which celebrity wedding felt like a fairytale to her, Devanggana revealed her admiration for the wedding of Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. "Their wedding was absolutely beautiful—intimate, away from the media, and deeply rooted in tradition. It was just them and their loved ones, celebrating in the most personal way. That’s the kind of wedding that feels magical to me."

As for her own big day, Devanggana’s love for grand celebrations came through. “For me, even my birthday parties are grand, so I’d definitely want my wedding to be grand as well. But it’s a personal choice—it depends on each individual’s taste.”
