100 Years of Raj Kapoor: Hindi Film Industry Unites to Celebrate The Greatest Showman

MUMBAI: Mumbai witnessed a stellar evening on December 13, 2024, as the Kapoor family and stalwarts of the Indian film industry came together to mark the centenary of the iconic filmmaker Raj Kapoor. Held at PVR Infinity Mall, the event saw the entire Kapoor family, including Randhir Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Alia Bhatt, paying tribute to the legendary filmmaker.

The celebration was a star-studded affair with Hindi film industry's luminaries gracing the red carpet. Iconic actors like Rekha, Jeetendra, and Prem Chopra, celebrated artists from the industry such as Neetu Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Riddhima Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Babita, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Aanand L Rai, Vishal Bharadwaj, Rajkumar Hirani, and leading stars like Tiger Shroff, Aditya Roy Kapur, Kunal Kapoor, Armaan Jain and Aadar Jain,Kartik Aaryan, Vijay Varma, Vicky Kaushal, Vedang Raina, Sharvari, Vidhu Vinod Chopra joined the Kapoor family in honoring the Greatest Showman of Cinema.

Adding a unique touch to the evening, media personnel donned customized T-shirts and hats as a tribute to Raj Kapoor. The decor featured vintage film memorabilia, while a live band from the Indian Navy performed at the red carpet. A musical ensemble featuring classic instruments created an enchanting atmosphere at the main venue, alongside the distribution of vintage-style film tickets that transported attendees back to the golden era of cinema. The overall event was decked with a vintage theme, while  several standing cutouts of Raj Kapoor's iconic characters and photo frames added to the charm of the evening. One of the many highlights also included an individual calling out the guests for the show 'Awara', with a classic hand board and a bell. Two indiduals also arrived dressed up as Raj Kapoor's iconic character from his film 'Shree 420'.

The sister duo Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt were seen enjoying 'Bobby', Vicky Kaushal, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ranbir Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Huma Qureshi, Boney Kapoor, Anees Bazmee, Ramesh Taurani, and Vedang Raina were seen watching 'Awara'. Meanwhile, Mukesh Chhabra, Aanand L Rai and Agastya Nanda were seen watching 'Sangam'.

As part of the celebration, R.K. Films, the Film Heritage Foundation, and NFDC-National Film Archive of India are presenting Raj Kapoor 100 – Celebrating the Centenary of the Greatest Showman. This festival features curated screenings of ten iconic Raj Kapoor films across 40 cities and 135 cinemas. Tickets are priced at just ₹100, reflecting Raj Kapoor’s vision of making cinema accessible to all.

On premiere night, attendees were treated to screenings of five of Raj Kapoor’s most iconic films: Awara, Shree 420, Sangam, Mera Naam Joker, and Bobby, offering a nostalgic journey through his timeless storytelling.
